Vacuum Systems Demand a Unique Kind of Testing

Operation under vacuum presents its own unique set of problems; air leaks into the process are a leading cause of off specification products. Leaks can be large enough to prevent or hinder proper operation.

Leak Detection Specialist, Inc. has been testing vacuum systems for decades.  We do not "sniff" the exhaust but take a sample directly from your process system into the helium mass spectrometer leak detector while operating.

Whether the unit operates @ 700 torr or 7 mil torr we can find the leak!

The leak you need to find could be in the fin fans condenser, sight-glass, flange or the man-way. You could, and probably do, have multiple leaks.

Leaks have been located in the in sides of columns, condensers and piping covered with insulation without the removal of the insulation.

The fact is, there are literally hundreds and hundreds of places the system could leak. Atmospheric leaks can be detected while running; as can some exchanger leaks.

Whether nuclear wastewater tank, crude oil tank or chemical storage tank; thirty foot or a hundred and thirty foot diameter tank, the tank bottoms need testing.

The "old vacuum box" method is a great preliminary method for finding those larger leaks, but it doesn't find the smaller leaks that lead to problems during the hydrostatic testing or during product storage.
